Hey friends. It’s been a hot minute since I posted anything and I want to apologize for that. Admittedly, it’s been a rough past couple of weeks. So my mental health hasn’t been the best. It’s been hard for me to find the motivation to write anything. Truthfully, some days it was difficult for me to even gather enough strength to leave the bed.
However, on the days that weren’t so bad, I was taking time to revamp and refocus on my choral works. Thanks to my trusty little flashdrive, I was able to recover some old pieces that I had written at least two or three years ago. I can’t tell you how happy I was, because I truly thought some of them were gone forever. Even though I could have easily written them down again from memory (I did write them after all), it felt like a weight being lifted off my shoulders knowing that the files still existed. I had to do some work to get everything into one software, as there was a mix of MuseScore and Sibelius files (music notation software, for those unaware) and I’m currently working with Noteflight. So there were some file conversions that I had to do but ultimately, I now have everything in one place. I’ve finished some unfinished works, edited some finished pieces, and even made some of them public to view. I’m currently finalizing a project that I started back in 2018, called The Langston Hughes Choral Series. I plan on “releasing” it relatively soon. I’m giving myself a deadline of by the end of the summer. I’ve also been diving back into my a cappella arrangements; it’s the best thing I’ve got since I’m no longer in my a cappella group. I recently finished an arrangement of Billy Joel’s “Vienna”, at least in terms of putting the notes down; I still have to add dynamics.
Reason why I’m been focusing a lot on this is because I want to have a surplus of content for my music Instagram that I recently created (@mariii_music). I want to start putting my self out there as a musician/composer. Along with that I’m gonna start taking commissions for compositions 👀 so be on the lookout for that.
With all of that said, I do plan on getting into writing again soon. If you didn’t hear, the lovely UMI just released her EP (and film!), titled “Introspection” on June 21. So there will definitely be a review/analysis coming for that. In the meantime, if you didn’t catch my lastest review on “The Gloomy Tapes, Vol. 1” by Call Me Karizma, definitely check that out, because it gets heavy.
So again, I apologize for being gone for so long, but I plan to get back into the swing of things. Thank you all for being patient with me.
